Smokey was a young bear that lived in the Metropolis zone where he found a lone Roller Badnik that Sonic was on the trail of. The badnik was in fact not a villain and made friends with Smokey. It took a little while but Smokey was able to get Sonic to save the badniks life, but he still told the troopers that Sonic smashed him so they would be left alone. Since the events of issue 100, we can only guess the badnik was destroyed.
