    Plot- (Spoilers)
Sonic and Tails receive a distress call from a rabbit in the Labyrinth Zone and go to help. They find out that a lot of people have gone missing and it is feared that Robotnik has been turning them into badniks. They go to check it out but Tails feels a little down in the dumps. It's the end of the year and Robotnik is still in charge and Tails wonders if he is really making any difference to the world. Just then, three Motobugs attack but Sonic and Tails make short work of them, with Sonic pointing out that defeating them badniks is a good start in making a difference to the world. However, the path they are going on, is leading towards the water and Tails knows Sonic can't swim, which is Something he corrects Tails on.. He never said he can't swim, he just doesn't swim. As they are falling into the water, Tails feels save in the knowledge that once Sonic has reached the ground, he'll be able to pick up speed, but Sonic finds out he is infact being sucked into a new machine that Robotnik has been working on and the whirlpool drags him father in. Tails sees Sonic is trapped and raises from the water to think of a good plan to save him, however, he finds a group of Trooper Badniks waiting for him. It seams the troopers are rounding up more people to turn into badniks. Tails has to choice wither to save the people or save Sonic and decides to save the people. Meanwhile, Robotnik's machine has slowed down and Sonic uses the chance to get free and comes face to face with jawz badniks. Seeing the machine start to pick up speed again, and knowing he is running low on air, Sonic grabs from air from a near by vent and then uses the ocean floor to run on as he destroys Robotnik's whirlpool machine. Above ground, Tails has saved the animals but wonders if he should have saved Sonic while he had the chance after seeing the large explosion. From out of the water, Sonic appears and tells Tails he made the right move and that saving the people was more important then saving him because he can always get himself out of a trap. Tails then realises that every time he helps someone, it does make the world a better place as the animals wish Sonic and Tails a happy new year.
