    Plot- (Spoilers)
Inside the Oil Ocean Zone, Doctor Robotnik installed his newest machine, the Pump. This machine did something to pollute Mobius. Via using an oil slick, Sonic took out a couple of Octus Badniks and broke into the Pump but instead of finding what he hoped to be a complex machine he had to destroy to stop it, he found only a single monitor and a on/off switch. After pulling the switch and stopping the machine, Robotnik appeared on the monitor. The Pump was a trap and there was in fact a huge super-bomb that would go off in 30 seconds. This bomb would not only kill Sonic and Tails, but set light to the whole Oil Ocean zone, destroying a lot. Sonic then had 30 seconds to search the Oil Ocean Zone and stop the Bomb. As time was starting to run out, the stress caused Sonic to turn into Super Sonic. As Super Sonic, his speed was much greater, he found the bomb and my spinning around it super-fast, he was able to create a 'cocoon of speed' that contained the explosion and stopped Robotnik's plan.
