The evil scientist, Dr Robotnik, has unleashed his most diabolical plot yet to turn the animals of Planet Mobius into robots. His monstrous contraption, the Veg-O-Fortress, built on Mt. Mobius, is already transforming happy creatures into mindless slaves!

Dr. Robotnik's fiendish machine draws its power from the mountain's volcano. Fiery lava fuels the lethal Pinball Defence System that protects the Fortress.

Sonic and his pal, Tails, mount an air assault on the Fortress, only to be blasted in mid-flight by Robotnik's cannons. Sonic is knocked into deep waters near the volcano. But he has friends in wet places - and is saved at the last moment!

Sonic sneaks into the Toxic Caves below the Fortress. From there, he infiltrates Robotnik's vast and deadly defence. In no time at all, Sonic starts swiping emeralds, freeing the animals of Mobius, and dishing out hedgehog justice!

Yo, Robotnik! You're in for a mountain of trouble now. Sonic is spinning into action!

Level Section- Go to the Options Screen and press 'A', 'Down', 'B', 'Down', 'C', 'Down', 'A', 'B', 'Up', 'A' , 'C', 'Up', 'B', 'C', 'Up'. When going to start on the main Title Screen, Hold 'A' for Lava Powerhouse, 'B' for The Machine and 'C' for Showdown while you press 'Start'.

Multi-Ball Stage- Collect All the Rings on a level and use the Large Ring Gateway.

Unlimited Lives- Go to one of the Two Barrels on the second level of Toxic Caves and move away from the Emerald location. Jump out of the Barrel and fall into the toxic waste. Sonic will appear to die twice before the level starts again. The Information bar will say 'Launching Extra Ball'.

Unlimited Lives (Another one)- When you are down to 1 life, go to the barrels on Toxic Caves like the other one. Lose a life they same as above and the same thing should happen, you will look to die twice before the level restarts. 'Game Over' will appear in the Information bar but you will still be able to play. No More lives will display by the lives meter.

* Like a lot of the US created Sonic games that were made around the time of the cartoons, This game features many characters from the cartoon 'Sonic The Hedgehog'. These are different characters in one of the bonus rounds and the badnik 'Cluck' in the First Level.
* The Colour of Sally Acorn, seams to show it was Early in SatAM Creation (Same reason why Archie Comics has her Pink).
* Scratch, from AOSTH also appears in a Hidden level of the game.

Day time Attack?
This early Sonic Spinball image seams to show the intro but not only is Robotnik's Veg-o-Fortress a bit different, but Sonic is attacking in a clear daytime, not the dark skied night time of the final version.
Game Map?
Much like the Game Gear version had, this image seam to show that the MegaDrive version of Sonic Spinball originally had a screen to show what level you were on, or an extended Intro. Notice that Robotnik wears.. some odd outfit.. he wears that in the game too.. really weird.

It seams a couple of images of Sonic Spinball's pre-released version shows Sonic being able to stand on the tops of bumpers like this. It seams a bit unknown if this was an error in programming at the time, but there are a couple of shots of these feature..

This is an interesting Look at an earlier version of the Bonus Table. Notice the image on the scoreboard?. Also, the table design is a bit different and if you can see, the Sonic in the background has Blue arms -_-
